We all have plastic toys. Whether you bought them for yourself or you were given them as gifts. But what do you do with them once your child has stopped playing with them?
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of this years Earth Day Second Chance Toys, in partnership with The New York Kids Club, will be hosting a toy drive April 12th-April 22nd at each of their six locations.
Second Chance Toys is a community-based initiative that rescues unwanted plastic toys that are gently used and distributes them to children in need through local community organizations. Many plastic toys are disposed of when they could still be used. Given the nature of plastic, these toys often show little signs of wear and are still in good working condition. When these perfectly useable toys are thrown out, they become waste in a landfill, take up a lot of space and do not biodegrade.
With Earth Day on April 22nd you have the opportunity to teach your child the benefit of helping the planet while at the same time helping those less fortunate. If each family donated just one toy, think what a difference we could make. The toys must be plastic only, must be clean, no small or missing parts and battery powered toys must be fully operational.
Drop boxes are in the lobby of each New York Kids Club location for the next two weeks, so please give any gently used plastic toys that a child in need could enjoy. Thank you.
